Success Story: Mentoring Match

posted by: aschiffer | Thursday 3/1/12

Mentoring is an important part of the additional care and opportunities we give the youth in our care.  The PICK Mentoring program (People Influencing and Coaching Kids) serves male and female youth approximately fourteen and older and who are receiving other program services through CHOICES, Inc.

We are pleased to tell you that one of our matches met this past weekend. PICK Mentor Vance met with his Mentee Cody for the first time at a local restaurant. They both had a great time getting to know each other and immediately made plans to see each other again this upcoming weekend.

Becoming a mentor is a great opportunity to make a difference in the the life of a youth, you can read more information about the qualifications and resposiblities by clicking here. There will be Mentor orientation this Saturday, March 3rd from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. The location is at our Dayton office: 1785 Big Hill Rd., Dayton, OH 45439 and it will be held upstairs in the board room.

Success Story: Kody S.

posted by: aschiffer | Thursday 2/9/12

We would like to recognize Kody S. for a successful transition from our Foster Care program to our Independent Living program. Kody is now enrolled at Clark State Community College studying Graphic Design. He received help from his CHOICES worker with the enrollment process and getting additional funding to attend; she was also able to attend orientation with him.  Kody now has a full time job and is doing wonderful balancing the two responsibilities and staying away from any negativity. We are very proud that Kody has reached this point and continues to work towards his goals.

We would also like to thank Bockrath Carpet for providing placement goods for Kody as he starts this new chapter of his life. As a non-profit we appreciate the partnership with local businesses in the Dayton area in providing opportunities for our youth in care.
